#6 Duck — Greige

#6 is not here to make friends. Often called “20 oz” duck in the trade, this weight actually measures approximately 19.8 oz/sq.yd — built for applications where failure isn’t an option and complaints travel fast. The kind of job where the fabric works harder than anyone watching. Tool buckets, industrial hoses, agricultural conveyor belts — #6 ends up in places that don’t have Instagram accounts. It gets coated in rubber, bolted to machinery, buried in factory floors. Nobody sees it. Nobody thanks it. And it doesn’t care. #6 didn’t sign up for applause.

Trivia:

#6 Duck has seen some things. A few years back, a customer ordered it with a flame-retardant finish for welding screens aboard a decommissioned battleship — the kind with gun turrets still intact and rust older than most of our staff. Sparks, confined spaces, no room for error. #6 took the finish and shipped out. We never got pictures. Around the same time, one of the largest tire manufacturers in the country started ordering #6 by the roll, rubber-coating it, and sending it somewhere we’re not allowed to ask about. Battleships and tire giants — #6 keeps strange company. It doesn’t ask questions. Neither do we.
