Some finishes are modern. Spray-on. Heat-sealed. Engineered in a lab by people with PhDs and clean fingernails. This is not that.
Canvak and Pyrosnuff are wax-based wet finishes from Buckeye Fabric Finishing in Ohio. They’ve been around since the 1920s. They haven’t changed much. Neither has the smell. It’s pungent. It’s unmistakable. It’s the reason we don’t keep samples in the office. We tried once. The office voted. The fabric lost.
But here’s the thing: that smell means it’s working. Wax emulsion, soaked into cotton duck, adding about 50% to the fabric weight. Water rolls off. Mildew gives up. The fabric gets heavier, tougher, and ready for years of outdoor abuse. Military covers. Tents. Tarps. Industrial shelters. The kind of applications where performance matters more than perfume.
We’re a little old-school about this. The process dates back nearly a century. We like it that way. It keeps our lights on. and the office windows open!
Canvak is the original. A wax-based wet finish from the 1920s. It soaks into cotton duck and adds about 50% to the fabric weight. It also adds a smell. You’ll notice it when you open the roll. You’ll notice it for a while after that. But the fabric will outlast your memory of the odor. Probably.
It’s a durable water and mildew resistant finish built for military covers, tents, tarps, and industrial shelters — anywhere the weather’s rude and the fabric needs to be ruder.

Pyrosnuff is Canvak with a fireproof twist. Same wax-based wet finish. Same 1920s heritage. Same smell that overstays its welcome. But this one also meets CPAI-84 flame retardant standards.
Yes, a wax-coated fabric that refuses to burn. Wax and fire. We know. It sounds wrong. We’d be fools not to trust it. It’s been working for nearly a hundred years. Who are we to argue?
Water repellent. Mildew resistant. Flame retardant. Three jobs. One finish. Not bad for something that sounds like it shouldn’t exist.
Available in: 10 oz to 18 oz cotton ducks. Colors: Green, Tan, Blue, Gray, Brown, Clear, and Olive Drab. Widths: 36 to 72 inches. Custom finishing on request. MOQ: 500 to 1,000 yards depending on the color.
Canvak and Pyrosnuff are the headliners. But they’re not the whole show. We also work with Napbak, Duracrest, Excello, Para-Dyed, Pyrovex, waxes, resins, PVC, latex, silicone, and acrylic finishes. Each one built for a different kind of abuse.
Need waterproof but flexible? Chemical-resistant? UV-stable? There’s a coating for that. We don’t stock all of them. We’re not a warehouse. But we know where to get them and how to spec them.
Tell us what you’re building. We’ll point you toward the right finish. If we can’t do it, we’ll tell you that too.
