Number Duck → #10 Duck — Greige

#10 Duck — Greige

If Number Ducks had a poster child, #10 would be it. Often called “15 oz” duck in the trade, this weight actually measures approximately 14.7 oz/sq.yd — not too light, not too heavy, just right for the kind of work that pays the bills. It’s also stocked in the dyed “Pantheon” collection — same fabric, more personality. Tote bags, artist canvas, messenger bags, director chairs — #10 ends up in places where people actually see it, which is rare for a duck. Most of its siblings work in the dark. #10 gets to show off a little. And it handles the attention well.

Trivia:

There was a time when #10 Duck ran through here like it owned the place. Truckloads of it, narrow width, big rolls that made forklift operators nervous. We’d ship them to a dye house in North Carolina, they’d work their magic, and off it went. Then the customer moved production overseas. The dye house closed — one fewer in a country that doesn’t have many left. The forklift got reassigned to lighter duties. We still have a roll or two kicking around the warehouse. Nobody wants to move them. They’re like a small monument to a supply chain that used to exist. American dye houses are an endangered species. #10 Duck remembers when they weren’t.
