Often called “12 oz” duck in the trade, this weight actually measures approximately 11.4 oz/sq.yd. #12 is woven with plied yarns in both warp and fill — which gives it a coarser hand and a rugged feel, not a smoother one like some assume. It’s the one you pick when you need the durability of a duck but don’t want the weight of a truck. Think of it as the approachable duck. The one you’d introduce to your parents. We also stock it as wide as 144-inches — which is less a fabric and more a landscape. Artists love it. We’ve seen painters roll it out across entire studio floors. At that width, #12 stops being a fabric and starts being a statement. It’s not trying to be #1 or 2/0. It doesn’t have to. Sometimes the job calls for something lighter — or wider — and #12 fits without apology.
