Number Duck → #1 Duck — Greige

#1 Duck — Greige

#1 is built for abuse. Often called “26 oz” duck in the trade, this weight actually measures approximately 25.6 oz/sq.yd. Electrical tools, construction gear — the kind of work that destroys lesser fabrics before lunch. With 5-plied yarns in both directions and a weight that crosses 25 ounces, it’s less a fabric and more a statement: this thing is going to outlast whatever you put it through. It sits right below the Naught Ducks, close enough to feel their shadow, heavy enough to not care. Some fabrics aspire to be liked. #1 aspires to be indestructible. So far, it’s winning.

Trivia:

#1 doesn’t dye easy. 26 ounces of cotton doesn’t absorb color so much as dare it to try. We recently got an inquiry for #1 Duck in black — someone needed lineman’s-gear-grade toughness with a black finish. We quoted it. Our dyeing machines groaned, like they always do when #1 shows up. In the end, the order didn’t come through. But we proved we could dye it if someone’s ready to commit. The fabric’s still out there, waiting for someone to say yes.
